3 Questions to Ask When You Don’t Know What You Want

clarity coaching tools decision-making overthinking self-trust Apr 18, 2025

You’re stuck.

Not because you’re lazy. Not because you’re unmotivated.
But because you’re overthinking everything—and still don’t have an answer.

It’s one of the most frustrating places to be:
You know something needs to change, but every direction feels murky.
You try to think your way into clarity… but the more you analyze, the more unclear it all becomes.

If that’s where you are right now, this post is for you.

When clarity won’t come, ask better questions.

You don’t need a life plan. You need a foothold.

Below are 3 questions I often use with coaching clients who feel like they’re in a fog—questioning their jobs, their relationships, or just their sense of self.

You don’t have to answer them perfectly. You just have to be willing to explore.

🌿 Question 1: What feels heavy right now?

Instead of starting with what you want, start with what’s weighing you down.
What drains your energy the moment you think about it?
Where do you feel resistance in your day?

Identifying heaviness often points directly to what’s misaligned.

🌿 Question 2: Where do I feel most like myself?

This could be a moment, a place, a relationship, or a memory.
Tuning into that space of ease, aliveness, or peace is often more illuminating than trying to define a five-year plan.

There’s wisdom in your body and joy. Follow it.

🌿 Question 3: If I trusted myself completely, what would I do next?

This question cuts through the noise.
It bypasses fear, logic, and other people’s expectations.
Even if you’re not ready to act on the answer, just hearing it can be powerful.

Clarity doesn’t always come with a lightning bolt.

Sometimes, it comes with a breadcrumb.
A feeling. A quiet yes. A moment of pause.
And sometimes, it comes from having someone to reflect it back to you.

That’s what coaching is for.
